How do i build a guitar from scratch?
June 2nd, 2009 Posted by: admin
I found an old guitar body with some pretty beat up elctronics. i decided to take them out, mold the body a bit, and fit it with a new neck. now all i need to do is make it play. what exactly do i need to buy, how do i wire it, are there sites to help, all that stuff. (it appears to be a fender strat, though idk which one) thanks!

I don’t think building one from scratch is a good idea. I would use wood instead.

When you get a neck for this guitar it must be the right scale length. That means the distance between the nut and the 12 fret must be the same as the distance between the 12th fret and the bridge. If not it will never work. As for wiring it up there are many sites on the web with schematics for that.

Go to Grizzly.com or Grizzlytools.com they have a complete line of musical instruments to make or parts. I myself am thinking of the twelve/steel string to start with. The complete kit goes for $89.00 the electric goes for $149.00

you will need pickups, these are etremely diffucult to make as they involve magnetising so its best to just buy some, you will also need a solderig iron and some standard wire(you can find anywhere, im using wire from my sterio in my guitar, you will need to mould an input, a circular metal device used for the lead, you will need nobs and wire for the nobs also
